"Your handle is the same as my famous comic title. Stop using it, now."
What would you do if you receive an e-mail from a cartoon writer saying like this?
This is not a fiction. This has really happened!
Mr. Yukito Kishiro, known as the writer of "Battle Angel Alita (GUNNM)", had sent mails to request Mr. Tatsukawa (just an ordinal citizen on the network) to stop using his handle "GANMU". Mr. Tatsukawa accepted the request, closed his site, changed his handle and re-opened his site.
Later,Mr. Yukito Kishiro had opened HOGONOMA at his official web site YUKITOPIA to set his own guideline to prohibit using titles of his comics as handles. Mr. Yukito Kishiro has also put the mails exchanged with Mr. Tatsukawa as an case on HOGONOMA.
This is now a very hot topic among Japanese networkers.
There's a site opened to protest against the guideline along with many other sites explaining opposition to the guideline.
Unfortunately all the information about this matter is written in Japanese.
So I have decided to open this site to provide the information in English for non-Japanese networkers' information.
As I am Japanese, there must be a lot of problems in English on this site. If you find them, please let me know.
I will try to update the information on this site to keep you informed.
FINALLY, MR. KISHIRO APOROGIZED!
After 3 weeks silence, Mr. Kishiro has finally apologized for his mistake. He has closed his official page YUKITOPIA and published aplogy announcement there. The announcement says "it was my mistake at all", "Yukito and Tsutomu will meet Mr. Tatsukawa and apologize directly", "HOGONOMA and its GUIDELINE is withdrawn", "YUKITOPIA is tempolalily closed for a while to expless apology", "Shueisya has nothing with this matter". Editor will wrap up this problem soon. [2000/05/18]
